We are born into this world
Into a light we have never seen
Thrust into a life we had never planned
From our first moment of life as we are washed out of the
pool of our creation
We are flooded with alien sensations unknown to us since
the moment of our conception
From the first moment we become individual
Until the last moment when we leave the light of this existence
We are students of the environment which surrounds us
This environment, which is half-time light, and half-time
dark
Will teach us everything we will ever know about
everything we will ever understand
The world around us will constantly bombard us with what
is right and what is wrong
What is dark and what is light
Most of us will never see beyond what we are told is
light
Filling half the span of our lives with a fear of the
darkness
Which we will have consistently been told is the wrong
Any one of us who steps out into the darkness of night
will see the points of light shining through
Most of the few who see these points of light
Have read the words written by those who came before
Who understood the meaning of those points of light
Standing against those who told us not to
In order to see, to know, to understand
In a world shaded by overwhelming masses of darkness-fearing
individuals
In a world populated without understanding
I am honored to have had contact with these lights which
shine through the darkness
